February 27, 2008 - OLD MAN WINTER IS GOING DOWN KICKING

Here we are... just a few days shy of the end of the Dark Months and old-man Winter is going down kicking. This was the view from my car this afternoon. Not much accumulation but a lot of really big snow flakes... and cold. Hopefully this weekend will be nice as I lift my Dark Month Syndrome funk and toss it to the side!

February 24, 2008 - FUEL PRICES

This whole fuel pricing thing is driving me crazy. Last week I watched the price of gas increase 40 cents per gallon in the course of three days... and it may continue to go up. Maybe the worst part though is that the oil company greed is having a ripple effect and we are seeing higher prices on everything from food to trash service and everything in between because of it.

Now I know they are blaming this latest gouging on the refinery disaster that recently occurred but it's hard to accept when you know that oil companies are seeing the largest profits they have ever seen. Somebody is getting rich folks! The sad part is that they have us by the ********* (word edited at my wife's urging) because we have to have fuel to function in todays society. If it came right down to it, they could charge $5.00 per gallon we'd still have to buy it... and they know it. It completely frustrates the crap out of me.

February 16, 2008 - IT'S STILL WINTER IN MIDDLE TENNESSEE

Today was one of those "Wintery" kind of days. It wasn't all that cold but the overcast sky and bare trees served as reminders that it's still Winter in Middle Tennessee. I did manage however to get out for a quick ride on the SV. There's some video below for those interested.

I'm really starting to like the SV. It's a blast to ride and so easy to deal with. Dry weight is only 364lbs so it's a breeze to maneuver around the garage... it handles lightning quick... it's fast... get's great gas mileage... it's just a really nice little bike.

February 13, 2008 - BLIZZARD HITS NASHVILLE!

For the past few days I've been feeling pretty darn good about the fact that March 1st is just around the corner. Yeah... the end of the Dark Months is in sight and I'm looking forward to my Dark Month Syndrome (DMS) getting KO'd. Of course, every year when I start getting cocky about it... we get dumped on and today was the day. It wasn't really a blizzard but let's face it... from a riding standpoint, it might as well have been.

February 12, 2008 - ABSENT FOR A FEW DAYS

So… some of you have sent email asking where I have been. Thanks for your concern… and I am now back in the RANT saddle. There's been bad stuff and good stuff going on.

First the bad. For about 5 days I battled a wicked-nasty cold. I don't think it was the flu but something definitely did not agree with my body. Actually, I just heard on the news a few minutes ago that we are close to epidemic here in Middle-Tennessee with all the sickness going around. One county cancelled school the rest of the week because 2500 students were out today. Fortunately I am much better now but a little frustrated. Some of you know that several weeks ago I started a major transformation in my eating and exercising habits. Been eating all the healthy stuff and taking a bunch of vitamins and nutrients and the result… sick now 2 times! Aint that a crock!

Now for the good. I go to one of the hippest churches in Nashville. It's not like most of the churches we all grew up in. It's way casual, the people are more concerned about a real relationship with God as opposed to a list of rules, the music is awesome, the teaching is relevant to life today… and on any given Sunday you'll see several motorcycles parked at the front door. Well, for the past three nights we've been meeting at 6:30pm just to see what God would do. No plan, no agenda, just complete surrender to God. Now some of you think church is strange in and of itself and I'm sure that even more are thinking it's even worse if you just go without a plan… but let me tell you, it was awesome. It's pretty amazing what God will reveal to you if you just stop and listen. We called it a "Sacred Gathering" and that's pretty much what it was.

So that's where I've been you see… and not spending much time on the computer. But now I'm back! I did get out for a ride the other evening though. On my way back home I mounted my camera and played around a little bit with some time-lapse. Below is a little clip from that ride. Those from Middle Tennessee… look closely and see if you recognize anything on my ride down Broad Street in Murfreesboro. You're watching about 10 minutes of ride time condensed into 40 seconds.

February 3, 2008 - A SWAGUMENTARY... MORE VIDEO NONSENSE

Yesterday was beautiful in Middle Tennessee so I took full advantage and did a little riding. Along the way I recorded my own version of a documentary. It's posted below courtesy of YouTube. I hope you enjoy it... I am having a ball with video lately. Can't wait 'til it gets warm and I can shoot some of my favorite Middle Tennessee roads.
